Training Program

Upcoming training workshops:
November 6-8, 2009

Life Transitions Network offers a series of training workshops for people who work with clients facing a broad range of issues related to grief, trauma, abuse and loss. In addition to therapists and counselors, clergy, teachers, nurses, body workers and other members of the health and human services fields will be able to use skills developed in the training program.

Our training focuses on building skills that enable one to be fully present to identify and facilitate clients’ expression of emotions that have blocked their growth and development. We utilize the Externalization Process, which was developed by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, to help people move quickly through deep areas of fear, anger, grief or unexpressed love and joy. Our staff were all trained the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Center and have years of experience with this work.

The first step in the training process is to attend one of our Moving through Loss and Transition Workshops in order to experience this work for yourself. Following this, the training involves attending a series of three workshops, although at times trainees are encouraged to attend additional workshops to gain more experience.

Participants attending their first training workshop will be taught the principles and tools used in facilitating externalization work, and will be given an opportunity to facilitate others under supervision. Listening skills and being fully present are strongly emphasized.

Those who have completed the introductory training and are returning for more advanced training continue to develop their skills with techniques of externalization work and additionally focus on different methods of establishing physical and emotional safety for people in deep emotional pain.

The most advanced level of training focuses on using these skills in private practice and working with abuse and trauma.

We believe that continuing to do our own work is an essential aspect of training to facilitate others. The training process can trigger many issues and offers an ongoing opportunity to work on whatever comes up.

Those registering for the training program must either be licensed professionals or in professional training programs, or be involved in ongoing work in which they could use the tools learned in the training (e.g. hospice volunteer ). Admission to the training program and continuation from one level to the next is at the discretion of the instructors.

Continuing education units for MFTS, LCSWs, and RNs are available.
